Today's Ulterior Motives
Celebrated playwright and director Sanari Jounouchi loves the theatre and hot spring spas in near-equal degrees – when it comes to fueling his creative desires, one simply cannot exist without the other. Enter Makoto Aizawa: a would-be actor with a flair for melodrama whose relationship troubles have led him to attempt drowning himself in Jounouchi-sensei’s very own bath. Unable to allow such a waste of obvious “talent,” the loquacious director decides to take this confused, inexperienced actor under his wing. But Aizawa will require training – lots of special, hands-on training that only Jounouchi-sensei can provide – in order to realize his true potential on the stage.

Actor Makoto Aizawa’s star has begun to rise, attracting the attention of Jounouchi-sensei’s rival director, Taizou Oouchi. When offered a lead part in Oouchi-sensei’s new musical, how can Aizawa turn it down? Maybe the fact that he can’t sing a note should factor in to his decision? Or perhaps Jounouchi and Oouchi’s relationship as bitter adversaries ought to cause Aizawa to steer clear?
